From day one Fly Green Alliance was set up due to a lack of women in the aviation and SAF world and our founder wanted to change that.
To ensure our members know what we stand for here are some of our core values:
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is the reason we started. Always championing those that have been side lined, often the underdog and determined to be strong but kind and fair in the business world. We have said before are the equity police. Working to ensure people are given a leg up in a world where some don’t have the same standing as others.
Co-prosper, we also saw that in business it can often be only profit led and we see knowledge or talent can be taken and not be paid for. We don’t support that approach, and believe everyone should get paid, and be able to have a role if they also can contribute to the greater good and global goals. We believe in inclusive groups, radical honesty, credit being given to contributors and where it is due.
Independence, our founder has always seen things differently, generally does not follow the crowd and does not believe the best ideas or solutions come from standard places. FGA explores, carries out thought leadership, and often goes against the grain to challenge the norm, to bring change and new thinking. We believe this is essential and “To get different results, you must do things differently”.
Maintaining the ability to travel. Our founder has been to 30+ countries. It is not only a personal pleasure of hers, it is an assets to Fly Green Alliance, understanding culture, behavioural differences, nuances and building relationships is essential when building global work, and knowing what is important to each nation as well as how their transport system works is key to a international perspective. From travelling by bike in Netherlands, understanding whether the US has trains, who get around by buses versus planes in South American countries, escalators in Hong Kong. The way we travel is unique to each country and culture. Knowing this is important to us.
GSOH – good sense of humour is needed, the work we do is very serious and political, and gets heavy. Have fun when you can, make things interesting, be flexible. It essential to maintain good humour. Good humour which is appropriate for your audience. But also it’s essential in a team to ease off when you can see someone is not having a good time.
Respect nuerodiversity: with the new understanding of spectrums of autism, ADHD, introverts, extroverts and more we believe there is a place, and job, for all; and seeing things from a different angle or cultural reference is very helpful for progress and business.
Digital and new trends – our founder campaigned for broadband in her village over 20 years ago, she used VOIP before skype existed, she created a proposal to let her company know that social media would be important in the future gaining promotions, and when she discovered the tech of sustainable aviation fuel she created a proposal and booking.com awarded her in 2018. She is now pioneering nuclear power for aviation. You could say she has an intuition for new trends. Read more in FGA trends 2023.
We’ll keep building on these values as new topics come to the surface. As our founder said from the start “I started FGA because I want to do things differently, I wanted to bring change, more women, younger generations and new perspectives on important topics which back then [2018] were not mainstream. I think FGA can be proud to say we are doing that.”
