On 16th April, California Foundation on the Environment and the Economy (CFEE) flew on SAF in Norway as part of an environmental commitment to offset emissions from flying, during their study trip to learn more from Norway’s innovation.
California State, is the 5th largest economy globally, and has made a commitment to increase SAF production to 200 million gallon (6.3m metric tonnes) (x10) by 2035, which is 40% of all California’s fuel use. CFEE’s group of 39 choose to offset their April flight from Oslo to Bergen with 100% SAF receiving a certificate of validation for their GHG reduction and the retiring or use of SAF in Norwegian airline’s fuel supply, see below.

Fly Green Alliance’s CEO, Sarah Wilkin, was invited to be part of a breakfast SAF Roundtable on the 16th April morning alongside VP Sustainability at Norwegian and Norsk eFuels presenting to the California Foundation on the Environment and the Economy’s group of 30 legislators, NGOs, energy companies and Senators. Sarah presented about the SAF voluntary market status and future opportunity, and was invited to a CFEE networking dinner on 14th April to meet and discuss investment and market opportunities in the US and Europe. Sarah recently was in Houston, March, to be part of CERAWeek with World Nuclear Association’s for the tripling of nuclear by 2050, for aviation, where Fly Green Alliance alongside Google, Dow and Amazon signed the declaration to support net zero for their respective industries.
The chance to fly on SAF on CFEE’s Norwegian trip was a good test opportunity for the group to understand the GHG reduction, the price and ease of the purchase through Norwegian. If you are also interested in buying SAF contact Fly Green Alliance for more information.

“In the loop” by Fly Green Alliance supports innovation, net zero and renewable fuel developments for those working on climate targets especially in travel. As part of the program there is a monthly webinar series www.intheloopbyfga.com and intros are provided when they arise, such as this one between CFEE and Norwegian, as part of the “In the loop” membership program, which ensures FGA’s connections and network offers solutions and match making, moving our members closer to net zero.
In episode 3 of ‘In the loop” we have invited experts, innovators and thought leaders to provide timely discussion and advice on the eSAF market and new platforms to ensure voluntary commitments such as the one CFEE made through Norwegian, so ensure that foundations, NGOs, climate groups and corporates are beginning their commitments to fly lower carbon on SAF.

Sustainable or synthetic aviation fuel as it is also called (SAF) can be made from used cooking oil, waste material and in the future C02 and hydrogen which are called eFuels or eSAFs. The first 2-3 of these plants should be in production by 2030. If you want to know more join us and stay “In the loop.
Join us in congratulating CFEE and Norwegian for this great SAF pilot and for putting together this knowledge exchange event, to work on developing the market for synthetic aviation fuel. Join ‘In the loop” by Fly Green Alliance to work on on SAF too!
